Spam Filtering That Does Not Break Your Inbox

Spam Filtering That Does Not Break Your Inbox

Most spam filtering on the market is tuned for one metric. How little spam reaches the inbox. That sounds like the obvious goal, until you realise the cost of getting there is the thing every business actually cares about. Real mail that never arrives.

The Problem With Aggressive Filtering

A provider can get very close to zero spam by being suspicious of everything. New sender domains. Mail with attachments. Mail from mailing lists. Mail with link shorteners. Mail from countries the filter does not recognise. Cut all of that and you also cut legitimate enquiries, invoices from contractors, password reset emails, and the exact message that a customer just sent you confirming an order.

The customer service tickets that this generates are invisible to the filter. They just land in your inbox, at a rate that grows quietly over time.

How We Tune Ours

Our filter runs a combination of reputation checks, content checks, and behaviour checks. Reputation means we look at whether the sending server has a history of sending good mail or bad mail. Content means we look for the telltale markers of a phishing attempt. Behaviour means we watch for bursts that look like a compromised account pumping out spam.

When a message looks borderline, it lands in a quarantine folder you can check at any time. You can release a message yourself, mark a sender as trusted, or tell us to be stricter about a particular pattern. You stay in control.

What We Do Not Do

We do not silently drop mail. Every message that arrives at our servers either reaches your inbox, lands in your spam folder, or gets bounced back to the sender with a clear error message. We never quietly throw mail away. If a message was rejected, we can tell you why and when.

For a business that relies on reliable communication, that transparency matters more than a zero spam number on a glossy slide.

Tuning Is Ongoing

Spam evolves. Our filters evolve with it. If you start seeing a new pattern of junk that slipped through, tell us, and we adjust. That feedback loop is one of the reasons small matters. A change in your inbox can lead to a change in our filter within hours.
